Art Bowker Awarded the 2013 the Great Lakes Region Thomas E. Gahl Award
Art Bowker, former IEC President and lifetime member of HTCIA has been named the recipient of the 2013 the Great Lakes Region Thomas E. Gahl, Line Officer of the Year Award by the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association. The award recognizes & honors Federal Probations/Pretrial Officers, who make a significant contribution and provide outstanding services to the field of corrections. The Great Lakes Region is comprised of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. This particular regional award is named after Thomas E. Gahl, a U.S. Probation Officer, who was killed in the line of duty. Art will be presented the award in a formal cermony next month. Early, this year Art received the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) Sam Houston State University Award for his writing contributions to promote awareness of cybercrime and tools for helping the community corrections field combat computer crime. He has over 28 years’ experience in law enforcement/corrections and is recognized as an expert in managing cyber-risk in offender populations. Art and Todd Shipley (2010 IEC President) have cowritten Investigating Internet Crimes, 1st Edition: An Introduction to Solving Crimes in Cyberspace, which is due to be released next month by Syngress. Art is also the author of The Cybercrime Handbook for Community Corrections: Managing Offender Risk in the 21st Century (2012/Charles C. Thomas Publisher, LTD).
